This painting of multiple glazes took more than a year to complete, including the time taken to allow for drying of each layer. The initial stages were spent on location drawing, then painting the under layer, I then completed the work in my studio at home in Wales.
i lived with a lovely Bedouin woman Umm Gersom, in the caves of Petra. During the day I was given a camel of my own and I had the privileged position of being able to move around Petra when the tourists had departed. So I was able to see the Treasury early mornings and evenings as well as during the day. I set up my easel in front and spent hours with my ruler, measuring the distances between pillars! Chatting to passers by about the meaning of life, painting this painting for me was a journey in itself.
